Data Engineer

Brief of the Role

We are looking for a data engineer to join our fast-growing team. As a member of the team, you will be responsible for defining and implementing data models and seamless integrations between our partners’ systems and our platform. Structured data is at the core of our platform. Your ability to unify definitions across many systems, ensure data quality, and design scalable models will have a direct impact on our ability to launch new products that delight our customers.

What we expect of you:

  • You do what you say you will do.

  • Design and develop data and analytics systems, setting database schemas and data models, creating data pipelines, and optimizing ETL processes.

  • Create and manage definitions for agronomic, accounting, and operational data internally and with external partners, unifying data definitions.

  • Collaborate with a cross-functional team to determine requirements for new products or feature upgrades.

  • Work with partners to define integration requirements, resolve all integration challenges, and ensure that our partner’s data is mapped and loaded correctly to our system.

  • Implement data governance procedures meeting internal requirements as well as requirements of partners and collaborators.

  • Design and implement analytical systems to verify and validate data quality and identify issues or inaccuracies in internal or external systems.

Who you are:

  • Obsessive about details - nothing escapes your eye, no matter how small.

  • Insatiably curious - you keep asking why, even if you got an answer.

  • Team-oriented - you seek help when needed, are open to constructive criticism, and have never uttered the words ‘well, that isn’t my job’ in a sentence.

  • Humble - you recognize that arrogance is toxic and that modesty is key to being a good teammate.

  • Communicator - you have strong communication skills that enable you to work constructively with our partners.

  • Adaptable - you enjoy dynamic, fast-growing, work environments and relish difficult challenges. No job too small, no idea too big.

  • Ag-Smart - you are familiar with ag data and agribusiness ERP systems.

Required Skills

  • 5+ years of hands-on software development in Python and Django

  • Extensive experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases

  • Excellent knowledge of software quality assurance and data storage principles

  • Previous experience working with agricultural data

What you can expect of us:

  • We do what we say we will do.

  • People First - we will seek to maximize your personal growth and long term career success during your time with AgVend and beyond. We value our employees lives and aspirations outside of the company.

  • Ownership and Autonomy - you will have the power to realize opportunities, drive change, and delight customers.

  • Clear Expectations - performance goals will be rooted in our company values and objectives.

  • Competitive Salary - we know money isn’t everything, but you will be properly compensated for your work.

  • Company Ownership - you are fundamental to the success of AgVend and thus you will receive stock options in the company.

  • Health Insurance - we want you and your family happy and healthy that is why all of our employees get industry-leading health coverage.
